As global concerns about food safety continue to grow, Hap Seng Plantations Holdings Berhad group of companies (“Group”) are embarked toward achieving the certification on HALAL. HALAL is a chain-of-custody system that provides assurance of appropriate and safe handling of food production in accordance to Islamic principles.
The HALAL certification is based on the Malaysian Standard on HALAL Food – Production, Preparation, Handling and Storage (MS 1500:2009), Manual Procedure for Malaysia HALAL Certification and Sertu Guidelines.
Malaysian Standard on HALAL Food (MS 1500:2009) - a practical guidelines for the food industry on the preparation and handling of halal food (including nutrient enhancers). It aims to set the ground rules for food products or food businesses in Malaysia which was developed under the Malaysian Standard Development System, under the wing of Department of Standardization Malaysia (DSM), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
This document has undergone the process required by international standardization agencies such as; International Standardization Organization (ISO), where the international standardization development system is based on the agreement of all vital parties, including governments, private sectors, NGO's, researchers and professional bodies. Malaysia (DSM) uses the same ISO policy.
The Group achieved its HALAL certification for all mills (Bukit Mas Palm Oill Mill, Tomanggong Palm Oil Mill, Jeroco Palm Oil Mill 1 and Jeroco Palm Oil Mill 2) in September 2019.
All the HALAL certifications obtained by the Group are in compliance with the recommended Malaysian Standard on HALAL Food – Production, Preparation, Handling and Storage (MS 1500:2009), Manual Procedure for Malaysia HALAL certification and Sertu Guidelines.
