Hap Seng Plantations (HSP) has taken the effort in obtaining the MeSTI certifications in 2019, a chain-of-custody system introduced by the Ministry of Health Malaysia that provides assurance of appropriate and safe handling of food products.
MeSTI or named it as “Makanan Selamat Tanggungjawab Industri (MeSTI)” was formerly named as Skim Keselamatan Makanan 1 Malaysia (SK1M). It aims to ensure company to fulfill Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 requirements. It is also essential for a company to adopt MeSTI before applying for JAKIM Halal certification. In MeSTI certification, a company has to comply with a full spectrum of basic hygiene requirement which focuses on operation control, hygiene & maintenance, traceability and record-keeping.
The MeSTI Certification also offers fast-track certification for companies that have already acquired the food safety assurance system recognition from the Ministry of Health (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points – HACCP certification, Good Manufacturing Practices GMP certification or Packaged Drinking Water, Natural Mineral Water or Ice licenses). The validity period of MeSTI certification is three (3) years.
The Group achieved its MeSTI certification for Bukit Mas Palm Oill Mill and Jeroco Palm Oil Mill 1 in 2019 while Tomanggong Palm Oil Mill and Jeroco Palm Oil Mill 1 and Jeroco Palm Oil Mill 2 is targeted to acquire MeSTI certification in 2020.
